Munich World of Wine to be held in the Olympic Stadium again in 2006

The Munich World of Wine came to an end on Sunday. A good 15,000 visitors attended the international wine festival at the Olympic Stadium and 3444 wine fans took part in the world’s biggest ever wine tasting with commentary. Visitors and participating producers were highly impressed by the unique atmosphere. The back stand had been converted into a gigantic vineyard with 20,000 vines for the occasion of the Munich World of Wine. Together with 13 wine-themed transparencies and the breathtaking tent roof construction of the Olympic Stadium, the result was a fitting optical backdrop for 250 producers from 24 countries to present their wines. Olympic Park CEO Wilfrid Spronk is satisfied with the World of Wine premiere: “It was a successful opening to a completely new kind of event at the Olympic Stadium. The positive response from visitors and participants gives us the motivation to continue with the World of Wine. As a result, we will also be inviting the wines of the world to the Olympic Stadium in 2006 as well.” Robert Lönarz from the German Oenological Federation presented wines from his member companies at the Munich World of Wine. He is convinced that, “We’ll be here next year as well. I don’t know of any other wine festival that is held in a more attractive and atmospheric location than the World of Wine. Our wine growers feel at home here in the Olympic Stadium. The Munich public is very interested in wine.” Norbert Heine, in charge of organising the Munich World of Wine, confirms this impression: “The World of Wine was attended by members of the public with a high level of appreciation for wine. This is indicated not only by feedback from the producers but also the number of people who participated in our wine-themed entertainment programme. We’re looking forward to the World of Wine 2006.”
